On October 14, 2023, an annular, or "ring of fire," solar eclipse will occur in Elko, Nevada. Elko is located a little more than halfway to the centerline from the eastern limit of the eclipse path. Nestled amid the arid mountain ranges and valleys known as the Great Basin, the weather odds in Elko should be relatively favorable on eclipse day, with the chances of precipitation low and the chances for sunny skies relatively high. In downtown Elko, annularity will last for about 4 minutes and 18 seconds. Interstate 80, which cuts across the entire width of the eclipse path in Nevada, runs directly through Elko and will make getting to the centerline easy for anyone who wants to reach the maximum durations there. Below, we've provided key details about the eclipse in Elko for locals and visitors planning on viewing the eclipse from that city.
