Two solar eclipses occurred in the U.S. in the span of about six months, the first, an annular solar eclipse, on October 14, 2023, and the second, a total solar eclipse, on April 8, 2024. Because the 2023 eclipse traveled from northwest to southeast and the 2024 eclipse traveled from southwest to northeast, the two paths crossed each other over Texas. For comparison purposes, the maps below show a national and regional view of the paths of annularity and totality over the U.S.
