On September 1, 2016, an annular, or "ring of fire," solar eclipse occurred in Africa. The path of annularity crossed over Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Madagascar. The path also crossed over the island of Annobón (Equatorial Guinea) and the island of Réunion (France). The maximum duration of annularity for this eclipse was 3 minutes and 6 seconds.
