On September 1, 2016, an annular eclipse crossed over Africa and several nearby islands. The path of annularity crossed the island of Annobón (part of Equatorial Guinea) in the Atlantic Ocean; Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and Mozambique on the African continent; and Madagascar and the island of Réunion (part of France) in the Indian Ocean.
